While living with his dog and loving companion Buster, one evening David Guy Levy wondered out loud: "What is it you think this is all about buddy? You get love, food, a place to live... and you don't know what most of this world or life is even about. I wonder how I'd feel if I was a pet, living somewhere that made no sense to me but knowing that it all was going to be okay."
And so Pet Human was born.
Pet Human has been a labor of love which David started working on all the way back in 2014. Knowing the quality of the artwork and the integrity of the story was paramount to bringing it to life, David partnered with Emmy Award winning creative director and writer Steffen Schlachtenhaufen and Australia based Artist Alex Heywood, who took over two years to complete this visual masterpiece.
The result is a gorgeously detailed 135-page book which we are excited to finally share with the world, as we gear up to begin our work on the second half of the story.
David is a storyteller based out of Los Angeles, CA. He is probably best known for directing the film Would You Rather, as well as the more recent The Mandela Effect. He has also served as a producer on films such as Terri, London Fields, Banking on Bitcoin, and others.
His previous graphic novel Back to Back to the Future was about what would happen if the filmmakers of Back to the Future went back in time and made sure that Eric Stoltz was never replaced by Michael J. Fox in the classic movie.
Alex is a young Scottish born artist currently living in Perth, Australia. He studied Animation at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design in Dundee (UK), and after graduating started working as a Freelance Illustrator.
The ability to live a digital nomad lifestyle allowed Alex to work and travel, exposing him to different natural environments, and a variety of habitats. His work is directly inspired by the natural world. The flora and fauna imagined and illustrated in Pet Human were heavily influenced by the artists move to Western Australia, a biodiversity hot spot. This is his first ever graphic novel.
Steffen is a writer, producer and Emmy-winning creative director. Born and raised in Wisconsin, he studied Communications and Theater at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point before moving to Los Angeles to pursue his career.
Steffen wrote the films Would You Rather and The Mandela Effect, directed by David Guy Levy, and Danger One, a dark comedic thriller directed by Tom Oesch.
Steffen also works as a producer, writer and VFX creative director on television documentaries for networks like Discovery Channel, History, and National Geographic. Credits include Life After People, The Universe, In Search of Monsters and Ancient Aliens. He has earned three different Emmy nominations, including one win in 2014, as the VFX creative director on H2’s Big History.
